  Design

Design is defined by Seels & Richey (1994) as “the process of specifying conditions for learning”. Within this domain, there are four subdomains including: instructional system design, message design, instructional strategies and learner characteristics. In this section you will find two projects that show my ability to incorporate these four subdomains into the project design. Both examples demonstrate my skill in using ADDIE, a systems approach, to design an instructional solution.

The project Middle School Students and Internet Safety was the final project for EDIT 226: Instructional Design Seminar. This project addressed the problem that middle school students do not use Internet safety rules and strategies while on the Internet. I used ADDIE to design an instructional solution to this problem and paid special attention to the needs and characteristics of the learners.

The Birdville Elementary Gradebook project was designed while taking EDIT 235: Designing Self-Directed Learning. This goal of this project was to design and develop a self-directed learning unit on the Excel based grade book. Basic message design principles were used when designing the user guide for the Birdville project in order to better communicate with the learner. And, instructional strategies were aligned to meet the needs of the learner.
