  Development

Development of instructional materials involves taking a design and working into a physical form. This domain includes the subdomains of print, audiovisual, computer-based, and integrated technologies. In this section of my portfolio, you will see examples of my skill in development. This is an area that is of great interest to me and my abilities have evolved a great deal while preparing for my MA. The projects shown here required the application of graphic design theory and principles even when the projects were not print based. Each of these projects is an example of design theory made real. The projects represent each of the four subdomains and each is the result of the application of visual and media literacy.  A diverse group of projects are shown in order to demonstrate my breadth of knowledge and skill.

Print technologies can include text, graphics, and photographs. The San Jose Medical Job Aid is an example of print-based technology. This project, developed for EDIT 235: Designing Self-Directed Learning, shows the use of cueing, captioning and the application of visual literacy. Storyboards were used during the design process to ensure that the message was clear for the learner.

The PRDS Forms Online project is an example of development using integrated and computer-based technologies. It was created while completing EDIT 242: Practicum in Instructional Technology. The project is an interactive, learner controlled, web-based module developed using Captivate 3. This project was developed as a training module for members (realtors) of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors (SilVAR). This module is designed to teach the user how to create and use a 'packet' (a set of real estate forms) using the PRDS software. Another project completed during EDIT 242 was the print-based job aid demonstrating How to Use a Packet in a transaction. Visual cueing is used to draw the users attention to areas of importance. This job aid was made available as a pdf for those members who wanted a tutorial that could be printed or saved to the users computer for future reference.

Dream a Little Dream of Maui is an example of integrated and audio-visual technologies. This project was created for EDIT 275: Educational Photography in order to integrate photos and sound in a slideshow presentation. Additional features include a visually interesting title/opening and rolling credits.

The project How to Move Your Work to the Dropbox is an example of print based and computer-based technology that incorporates images (graphics and screen shots) and text to share information with the learner. This project was developed using InDesign CS2 while I was enrolled in EDIT 273: Graphic Instructional Resources. It was designed to assist students with turning in or moving their assignments from their digital locker on the school server to the teacher's digital locker (drop box).
