Utilization has been described by Seels & Richey (1994) as 'the act of using processes and resources for learning". This would include matching the learner with appropriate materials as well as guiding them while using materials. Utilization also encompasses providing assessment of results and building usage into the practices of the organization. Specifically, these subdomains are called: media utilization, diffusion of innovations, implementation and institutionalization, and policies and regulations.
In this section of my portfolio, you will find two projects that are examples of the subdomains media utilization and inplementation and institutionalization. Both project show my ability to put ISD knowledge into practice.
The project Are You A Husky? was created to teach elementary students about school policies and practices. This project, developed using Flash for EDIT 127: Authoring Microcomputer Programs, uses engaging media to implement instruction. Students are motivated and engaged as they interact with the project and learn about institutional policies and expectations (uniform policy, playground rules and the IB Learner Profile).
Internet Safety & Teens was developed for EDIT 273: Graphic Instructional Resource using InDesign CS2. This utilization example was created for the specific purpose of sharing relevant Internet safety information with parents and students in order to change Internet use behaviors. It provides accurate research based information and can be used as a reference tool. The project serves the goals of the school as well as the community and is engaging in its presentation.
